For over twenty years I have witnessed the evolution of the synthetic turf industry. Every year new products and accessories are being born to enhance the performance and variety of its use. Not only has synthetic turf changed, but underlayments, shock pads and drainage grids are becoming the “much needed” trend in completing systems that are now designed for multi-use.
It is strongly recommended that a drainage grid be placed under Pet Relief Areas, Rooftops, Balconies and Playgrounds where aeration and permeation is needed.
Pet Relief Areas must have constant flow of air and drainage to prevent the buildup of bacteria and odors. Without proper aeration and drainage, these odors and bacteria that are left behind may become harmful to you and your pets.
Synthetic Turf on Rooftops and Balconies must have proper drainage. I strongly recommend placing a drainage grid below the balcony or rooftop application so water can run through the synthetic turf and drainage grid to allow water to escape. Without a drainage grid the longevity of the synthetic turf will be depleted due to thermal contraction and the buildup of contaminates.
Playgrounds must have proper drainage. I have witness hundreds of playgrounds that have uplifted due to shock pads and synthetic grass being submersed in water, then curled and uplifted after drying out.
